Tufting is a textile technique where yarn is inserted into a base fabric to create a raised, textured surface. This is often done using a tufting gun, which shoots loops of yarn through a backing material. It’s a versatile craft that allows for a lot of creativity and personalization. On this workshop, you will be able to do your own Tufting piece of max 60x60cm.

What You Can Create with Tufting: Rugs and Carpets, Wall Hangings, Cushions and Pillows, Fashion Items (some designers use tufting to create unique clothing items and accessories) and Home Decor.

Price: 600/700 (includes basic materials and tools)
Materials: We have some yarn at FabLab, but bring your own if you want a specific colour or expression. Preferably Acrylic yarn needle size 3-5 (no cotton or wool). A Tufting piece measuring 60x60 cm requires approximately 14-16 skeins of yarn, each weighing 50g. Be aware that we only have yarn suitable for tufted wall hangings - not yarn suitable for making carpets.

On March 19, 18.00-22.00, we will make the Tufting pieces. Each participant will have access to a Tufting gun, a canvas and yarn in different colours. You'll also have the opportunity to use a projector to help get your design from a computer to your canvas.

On March 26, 18.00 -20.00, we will cut out the rug, glue it and finish it with the shear. You will also have the opportunity to add something to hang it with. At the end of the course, you'll be able to bring home your own personalized Tufting piece!

We recommend that you eat beforehand, but you'll be able to buy a beer or soda at FabLab during the evening for 10,-.

Note: If you do not know how to use a Tufting gun - please sign up for an Introduction course before attending a Tufting Extended course. Your instructor will be there the whole time, ready to help, but due to the time available, you will need some basic Tufting skills beforehand.
